"We ended up on opposite sides of the country, in many senses of the word. Alaska is just about as different and as far away from Florida as you can get. But even though in the last few years Nick was alive, we only talked a few times a year, when we did, it was just like when we lived in the same town. The only thing that was different is that the last time I saw Nick he was happy. All the negativity of being stagnant for years, floating around from place ti place was washed away. He had found something that I still haven't. And in Classic Nick Fashion, he passed away when things were finally looking up for him. But i'm glad he actually got to feel at home, even if it was only for a short time. Nick died in Naples, Florida on December 6th, 2007. There was a formal viewing for family and friends before he was cremated and his ashes made there way back to Alaska He was laid to rest in a place that he visited daily. A celebration took place and people gathered, sang songs, told stories and remebered Nick in whatever way they saw fit. Here is a paraphrased retelling of that day from a friend who was there. It had been raining for 24 hours and the clouds stayed close to the ground. The sun tiredly surrendered and hid behind the mountain peaks. At first only a few people gathered in the little cove where, everyday, Nick walked his dog. Soon car load after car load of people appeared. People from all walks of life came to pay there respects. It hit me then how much he had grown and just how many lives he had touched. I was lucky enough to get to see Nick the last night he was alive. We visited, talked, drank, and spent time finding out what eachother had been doing as of late. At the end of the night we said our goodbye's. He was leaving to go back to Alaska and we knew we wouldn't see eachother for a while. it was the best possible way I could have goodbye to a friend."

Illicit Dissent is Tyler Haiste (drums), Neil Pighin (guitar, vocals), Spencer Hammond (bass, vocals), and Magda Partyka (vocals). Hailing from Prince George, BC, these four are Canadian punk rock at its finest. There isn't much more to it than that. Dirty Rotten EP/LP is the 1983 debut release by the crossover thrash band Dirty Rotten Imbeciles. The album has a very gritty sound. It is considered one of the most influential hardcore albums of all time, and is also considered one of the first thrashcore albums. Originally released as a 7" Dirty Rotten EP (played at 33 RPM) with 22 songs, it sold out quickly. It was later remixed and re-released as a full album with the same 22 songs, but in a different order, and titled "Dirty Rotten LP". This album would also be combined with all four songs from their 1984 Violent Pacification EP. The Dirty Rotten LP was re-released yet again in 2003 as the Dirty Rotten CD, with 22 bonus tracks.

Brenna plays slow (for the most part) acoustic folk music, with biting lyrics and a wonderful voice (I'm a sucker for female vocalists). Plus it took me FOREVER to track down any of the Riot Folk albums, so hopefully its appreciated. So here it is for you all. Hope you enjoy it.

This is a comp I put together of the bands that I have select discographies of, so anyone interested in any of the groups can tell me and I can upload what I have of their material. I put together my favorite groups and some of my favorite tracks by them. Alot of these artists (although certainly not all) distribute their music for free, and play in garages and small venues for free. Quite the DIY punk mentality, but just folky instead of crusty. And there's a nice variety here. Fun dancey hoedown jams and slow emotional ones; fun lyrics and political lyrics; old men and young kids; well known groups (Chumba and Against Me) and no name kids.

Slug's Revenge is part of the Rustystrings co-op, which is essentially a bunch of anarcho kids who play bluegrass/folk music, with some punkish vocals and sensibilities. Slug's is self-recorded and produced (on Sawjaw Records... not that he gets much distrib hahaha), have all their (his) albums up for free on their (his) website, and tour people's garages and backyards. In short, your typical underground punk band. One of the best anarcho-folk bands I've ever heard (right up there with Mischief Brew, Alan Baker, and Defiance Ohio), and the new recordings are amazing. Some of the most badass pickwork I've heard and some great lyrics. Kevin is the man (and a really nice guy to boot).

It's some amazing stuff, so I hope you guys check it out.

The opening verse of the first song of this album pretty much gives you an idea of what to expect from Refused; angry-as-fuck, anti-capitalist Hardcore Punk. The Shape of Punk to Come certainly gives you that, it has all the left wing pretenses and pounding energy you'd expect, while being more experimental and daring than their earlier work. This is particularly obvious with cases such as the Ambient "Bruitist Pome #5" and atmospheric Electronic break near the end of "New Noise". The album also displays a plethora of particularly awesome basslines. Enjoy.

The Talking Heads are a New Wave band that formed in 1974 in New York City. Led by main musician and songwriter David Byrne, it was originally formed from a group of graduates from the Rhode Island School of Design. As such, they were known for having true multimedia performances, with their concerts involving film and other graphics in addition to the music.

Their music might sound like a sort of twisted disco at first, since it draws on punk music as a main influence. They're a very interesting band. It's likely they're one of the least-obscure bands in this blog, since they had large amount of commercial success in the 80's. To quote music critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine, the Talking Heads are "one of the most critically acclaimed bands of the '80s, while managing to earn several pop hits."

This album, Fear of Music, is their third studio album, and my favorite. It has some of their most classic songs on it (though not their biggest hit, Psycho Killer), in addition to being an excellent album in general. It's a great introduction to the band, showing off their excellent songwriting skills and David Byrne's often subversive lyrics.
