Hey kids! It's been a while since i posted anything for you, so here's an album by the late, great Cave In.

Early in their career, the band played crushing hardcore with crunchy guitars and occasional rocking melodies. Somewhere along the way, they decided to drop the hardcore thing and make spaced out rock with heavy guitars and some metal undercurrents.

Jupiter is probably my favorite of their un-hardcore days, this release containing demo versions of "Stained Silver" and "Rubber and Glue" (titled "Bigger Riff" here) from the follow-up album Antenna. These versions are better than the ones that made it to Antenna, in my opinion.

ANYWAYS, just check it out. It's a solid album from a solid band.

Tristan Tzara was a screamo/hardcore band from Dortmund, Germany. Their name is taken from founding dadaist Sami Rosenstock who used “Tristan Tzara” as his pseudonym.

They have recorded two studio LP records before their ending in year 2002.

not much info on the band, but if i'm posting them to show to you guys then you know it's worth checking out. (i've been meaning to post these up for a while now) the songs are short, the albums are short, they're really good. be brave, my friends

The Greyboy Allstars (GBA) are a San Diego funk and jazz group created in the early 1990s. The group began as collaboration of DJ Greyboy (turntable) with Karl Denson (saxophone, flute) during weekly shows at the Green Circle Bar in San Diego and on the DJ Greyboy albums Home Cooking and Freestylin’. Together they gradually gathered musicians co-founding a house band including Robert Walter (keyboards), Chris Stillwell (bass), Elgin Park (also known as Mike Andrews) (guitar), and Zak Najor (drums). The Greyboy Allstars were a major part of the mid-90s acid jazz movement and a catalyst for renewed interest in late 60s/early 70s soul jazz. Denson has described the Greyboy Allstars as a boogaloo band, a distinction which has set them apart from other contemporary soul jazz/acid jazz combos.

i've been listening to this album pretty regularly for the last year. i don't know a lot about the genre they fall into, but this is a solid, super entertaining album you should check out

I Am Hollywood is the first full length release from rock/metal/post-hardcore band He is Legend. It's a really really fun, hard-rocking record that doesn't take itself too seriously (check out the video for "the Seduction" for proof) and deserves to be enjoyed by more of us than just Nick and I.

Hella are guitarist Spencer Seim and drummer Zach Hill. They play frenetic, improvisational math rock. For There's No 666... they recruited another guitarist, a bassist, and a vocalist and put together some super unusual and interesting songs. I wasn't sold on this album the first time i heard it, mostly for having been caught off guard by the vocals, but songs like "the Ungrateful Dead" and "the Hand That Rocks the Cradle" are hard not to listen to on repeat for half-hours at a time.

"So what makes The Murder of Rosa Luxemburg, different from your average post-hardcore band? Well, let's see first off there are the numerous experimentations with electronica, seen in the tracks Jack and Oscar Have A Fight and Ex Post Facto. These electronic tracks are very similar to the interludes found on Minus the Bear's first LP Highly Refined Pirates. Another aspect that The Murder of Rosa Luxemburg's music has is the sense of humor and spazziness found in a group like The Blood Brothers. The thing that makes The Murder of Rosa Luxemburg's music more interesting then The Blood Brothers is that instead of concentrating on having ridiculous vulgar lyrics screamed by two crazy singers with very simple music backing it, the actual music seems to be the center point of The Murder of Rosa Luxemburg experience, and what wonderful music it is. The group's main tools of destruction are the fantastic bass and guitar interplay. The bass lines on this album are one of the key reasons I love it, they are so jumpy and random very similar to the bass lines of another favorite band of mine, Off Minor. The guitars have that jazzy hardcore sound that The Plot to Blow up the Eiffel Tower has, for those that have heard them. The drumming is simple yet suits most of the songs and the lead singer's scream/talk is nasally but not to the extent where it is bothersome. The lyrics aren't anything special just nonsense that is trying to tell a crazy *** story about a man and the fight inside his conscious which is represented by a cat and a dog. All of the songs that are not electronic experiments are constantly progressing into new parts which really keep this album from getting old. While most of the songs are heavy, the band is able to jump between various styles of heavy music whether it is straight up hardcore, grind, and even some alternative rock type stuff."

you probably haven't heard much music like this before, so give it a shot. it's fun.

"...I have yet to detail why I’m so ticked off at myself for being woefully under-informed. Pick your reason. But it’s probably the vast diversities between songs - “Aphelion” mixes horns with startling screams, while “Sol Solis” is a simple, acoustic ballad. Their ability to write a mathy and atmospheric rock song (“Alastika”) never hampers their aptitude at transcending the restraints of ‘regular’ post-rock (“The Earth And The Sun”). Quite simply, there is nothing these guys can’t do."

This is music in the 'post-rock/indie rock mashup' vein that bands like the Appleseed Cast or A Red Season Shade occupy, though said bands RARELY reach the intensity or the sheer quality Moving Mountains have put together here.

Sgt. are a fabulous little band from Japan who make instrumental music which varies from Caspian-like epic (p.s. listen to Caspian) to an almost Ozric Tentaclesian jam, but with more focus and less rave drugs

"...maybe it's my 70's upbringing as a progressive rock geek returning to haunt me, because this music is art rock if it's anything.

The songs are relentlessly episodic. The band plays in 4/4 only grudgingly and only long enough to respectably establish a groove before veering off into multi-metered mania!
If you dissect the guitar playing you'll find the ghostly image of Fripp a-leering. These conceits may or may not thrill you, but when they're executed this well and recorded this clearly, I don't believe you could walk away unimpressed.

It's the eerily symbiotic partnership of guitarist Dan Rock and Brian McAlpin that impacts most astoundingly. Not a lead lick goes by that isn't harmonized in any one of dozens of sophisticated scaler schemes - you couldn't mistake these two for one guy and an Eventide unless you were genuinely ignorant.

The egoless interplay between Rock and McAlpin is virtuosic, and their composing is a bountiful pleasure.

Ward evans & Norm Leggio on bass & drums tackle the wickedly complex structures with bravado, on the aural evidence they relish the challenge of playing these tunes, and succeed. This band must live to rehearse!" -Review By Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa guitarist)

Psychotic Waltz were a progressive rock/metal band from San Diego who achieved a decent amount of fame overseas, but never quite struck a chord with american audiences. i'm not a musician and can't claim to truly understand all of the technical underpinnings of their music, but the songs on display here are original, ambitious, and most importantly an absolute blast to hear. Buddy Lackey (current Deadsoul Tribe frontman) had an honesty in everything he sang that grabs you deep inside and rubs you in all the right ways. the guitar, bass, and drums all sound psychotic as hell (hoshit,pun) without sounding pretentious; i.e. i've never gotten the feeling that Dan Rock's solos were only there to show us how good Dan Rock was at playing the guitar

recommended for fans of Spiral Architect and Watchtower

highly recommended for anyone who has never heard either of those bands

As a point of comparison, Naikaku mixes the ferocity of King Crimson with the psychedelia of Ozric Tentacles as well as the gentle pastoral woodwinds of Anglagard, incredibly without particularly sounding like any of those bands." -sea of tranquility

recommended for fans of epic, noodley, progressive instrumental music.

this is the second album from cult doomsters Unholy, and probably my personal fave. i've never been able to sum up their sound very well (and there are no more good reviews of them on the interweb...), so here's a list of things to expect:
-mesmerizing atmosphere
-crushing and fucked up vocals
-even more fucked up female vocals
-insanity
-depravity
-originality

i've had this CD for years and listened to a lot of music in this genre, and nothing else really sounds like this. worth a spin if only to hear something you probably won't hear again.

This is the third full-length from these Canadians, though like many it's my first exposure to them, which is a shame in a way... because I wish I had been following them for years already! Expect 40 minutes of punishing metallic hardcore comparable to a blend of commonly bonded acts like Neurosis, Isis, Burst, and Tantrum, to name but a few noteworthy companions to this style of material. The record was written as one complete piece, here divided into 10 tracks that sort of cover two segments of five - each starting with an introductory piece and containing four different conceptual representation of time, reflecting the concept of the album.
