"...I have yet to detail why I’m so ticked off at myself for being woefully under-informed. Pick your reason. But it’s probably the vast diversities between songs - “Aphelion” mixes horns with startling screams, while “Sol Solis” is a simple, acoustic ballad. Their ability to write a mathy and atmospheric rock song (“Alastika”) never hampers their aptitude at transcending the restraints of ‘regular’ post-rock (“The Earth And The Sun”). Quite simply, there is nothing these guys can’t do."

This is music in the 'post-rock/indie rock mashup' vein that bands like the Appleseed Cast or A Red Season Shade occupy, though said bands RARELY reach the intensity or the sheer quality Moving Mountains have put together here.

Sgt. are a fabulous little band from Japan who make instrumental music which varies from Caspian-like epic (p.s. listen to Caspian) to an almost Ozric Tentaclesian jam, but with more focus and less rave drugs

Not sure how many of you are familiar with these guys so I thought I'd up it. The Ascent of Everest are another diamond in the sea of post-rock artists nowadays. I'd say they are very comparable to artists like Yndi Halda, Caspian and a little bit of Laura thrown in for good measure. Having seven members from all across the country brings a lot to the table. Each member contributes his or her own style, which is then intertwined with the calming ambient sound of the band.

Film School is the second album of the band of the same name, and also my first exposure to the group. Initially being captivated by their modern shoe-gaze feel, new-gaze if you will, and rough around the edge riffs and all too often dreamy vocals along with several post-rock elements, I instantly fell in love with the band and this album. I think that spin(dot)com put it best:

"Quiet but intense, subtle but unrestrained, the songs of Film School possess, musically speaking, more balls than Sigur Ros and less eccentricity than Moby. It's like a seamless score to your dreams. Or hallucinations"

Give it a spin, then go ahead and put it on repeat.
