Fin de Siècle - Nine Barns

Band: Fin de Siècle
Album: Nine Barns
Genre: Neofolk/Ambient/Experimental
Country of Origin: France
Year: 2007

Track Listing:
  1. Introduction
  2. Fearless Femme
  3. Summertime
  4. Prison
  5. Daddy
  6. Interlude
  7. Lonely
  8. Nine Barns
  9. The Feast
  10. Stranger
  11. Night Hawks
  12. Summertime 2
  13. Ashes
  14. Epilogue
I can't find any samples anywhere, Fin de Siècle weren't exactly well known. Nine Barns was their last album and is really a quite beautiful, interesting and eerie Ambient album that sometimes boarders on Neofolk in a few songs. The ambience is mostly created through wonderfully creative violin, guitar and drum work, with sound clips and backing synth in many places added to it. The wonderful, intense and eerie atmosphere the violin work of Florence Cailleux can create is especially noticeable on tracks like "Fearless Femme" and "Prison". "Daddy" is an incredibly intriguing musical adaption of Sylvia Plath's poem by the same name, with a recording of Sylvia Plath herself reading the poem placed over Ambient music. If you're interested in something experimental, interesting and absorbing, give this a listen, but skip it if you don't plan on sitting down and opening yourself up to every second of the music.

Of the Wand and the Moon - Sonnenheim

Band: Of the Wand and the Moon
Album: Sonnenheim
Genre: Neofolk
Country of Origin: Denmark
Year: 2005

Track Listing:

  12. I Shall Feast
  13. Like Wolves
  14. Winter Solstice
OtWatM's latest release and fourth full length, and longest release. Same beautiful, rich and gorgeous Neofolk, as touching and enjoyable as the rest of his stuff. I suggest it as much as the rest of what I've upped and hope you'll download and enjoy it all. Definitely a wonderful artist that deserves plenty of attention.

Of the Wand and the Moon - Lucifer

Band: Of the Wand and the Moon
Album: Lucifer
Genre: Neofolk
Country of Origin: Denmark
Year: 2003

Track Listing:
  1. Lucifer
  2. Naer Skóg Naer Fjöllum
  3. Megin Runar
  4. Followe Thy Faire Sunne Unhappy Shaddowe
  5. Time Time Time
  6. Let It Be Ever Thus
  7. Reficul II
  8. Lucifer
OtWatM's third album and maybe my favorite. It also has one of the coolest covers I've seen, and giving it a good look I think enhances the feel of the music. Something about the atmosphere of the cover mixes exceptionally well with the feeling of the music, something Kim did with Nighttime Nightrhymes as well. Has a sequel to the earlier track "Reficul" ('Lucifer' backwards). Enjoy.

Of the Wand and the Moon - I Crave For You 7"

Band: Of the Wand and the Moon

Genre: Neofolk
Country of Origin: Denmark
Year: 2001

Track Listing:
  1. I Crave for You (New version feat. Matt Howden)
  2. In a Robe of Fire (New version)
A very short little EP featuring new versions of songs from Nighttime and Emptiness, before you write it off as a pointless download, listen to the new version of "I Crave For You". Matt Howden (the guy behind Sieben) manages to make a beautiful song even better.

Of the Wand and the Moon - Emptiness:Emptiness:Emptiness

  6. Gal Anda
  7. Here's to Misery (A Toast)
  8. Can I Erase the Demon?
  9. Reficul
More OtWatM, and no typos. Oh my. Emptiness is my least favorite of Kim's full lengths here, but still good none the less. "Here's to Misery (A Toast)" is a particularly gorgeous composition. Hope you like it.

More OtWatM. Mistake again: "Brace Your Self" is spelled "Barce Your Self". Unusual number of mistakes here. Oh well.

Of the Wand and the Moon - Nighttime Nightrhymes

Band: Of the Wand and the Moon

One of my favorite Neofolk acts, a solo project by Kim Larsen. Nighttime is his first album and one of my favorites. Just so you know, "VargQld" is listed as "Vargold" in the upload, so you'll need to edit the tag. Sorry.

Excellent Neofolk with a very distinct feel. Not sure how to describe it, but I find it to be very emotionally charged, personal and touching music which covers a variety of thoughts and experiences. Listen to it yourself to decide, enjoy.

Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio & Spirirtual Front - Satyriasis

Bands: Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, Spiritual Front
Album: Satyriasis
Genre: Neofolk, Industrial ("The Pleasure Of Pain")
Country of Origin: Italy (Spiritual Front), Sweden (ORE)
Year: 2005

Track Listing:
  1. Your Sex Is The Scar (Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio feat. Spiritual Front)
  2. Song For The Old Man (Spiritual Front)
  3. Hell Is Where The Heart Is - The Gospel Of Tomas (Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio)
  4. Autopsy of a Love (Spiritual Front)
  5. Three Is An Orgy, Four Is Forever (Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio)
  6. Border (Spiritual Front)
  7. Dreaming Of My Scarlet Woman (Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio)
  8. The Pleasure Of Pain (Spiritual Front feat. Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio)
Split between two of my favorite Neofolk bands, the idea of which formed when the leaders of the two bands met at an orgy in Germany. Satyriasis is the male version of nymphomania, and as is to be expected, many of the songs are very erotically charged, though this is a common aspect of both bands' music. Both the individual songs and the two collaborative efforts are fantastic, and the ORE songs are some of my favorites of theirs. Highly suggested.

Samples

I'll be using shorter descriptions in my posts, replacing the detailed descriptions with links to sample songs in the track listing itself. Hearing the music will give you a better idea of whether you'd enjoy it or not than would reading about it.
