Legion Of Doom - The Horned Made Flesh

From a genre that has been vomiting out mediocrity for quite a while comes... an actually good Old-school black metal album.

Grand in scale, Classic in sound.

The Felice Brothers- Tonight at the Arizona

Artist: The Felice Brothers
Album: Tonight at the Arizona
Genre: Folk, Acoustic, Alt-Country
Year: 2006
Tracklisting:
  1. "Roll On Arte"
  2. "Ballad Of Lou The Welterweight"
  3. "Hey Hey Revolver"
  4. "Your Belly In My Arms"
  5. "Lady Day"
  6. "T For Texas"
  7. "Rockefeller Druglaw Blues"
  8. "Mercy"
  9. "Christmas Song"
  10. "Going Going Gone"
  11. "Take This Hammer (Live)"
If you're into folk like Bob Dylan, The Band, etc. then you will definitely enjoy the Felice Brothers. It's really refreshing to hear music that is as down to earth as they are. They're definitely one of my favourite bands right now and I try to listen to them every day (I usually play this album once a day). If you're looking for something that goes well with bourbon on ice and cigarettes, this is it. If you dig them, they have two other albums out that I can upload and I think they're realeasing one for '09 too, but don't quote me on that.

Woman King

Artist: Iron & Wine
Album: Woman King EP
Year: 2005
Genre: Folk, Acoustic
Country: USA

This is what I consider to be one of the best things Iron & Wine has done.  For an EP, it's so solid, and it sounds like a mix between their old low-fi sound, and their current, over-produced smoothness that now encompasses their albums.  "Jezebel" is my favorite Iron & Wine song, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a listen, even if mellow isn't your thing.

OtWatM's latest release and fourth full length, and longest release. Same beautiful, rich and gorgeous Neofolk, as touching and enjoyable as the rest of his stuff. I suggest it as much as the rest of what I've upped and hope you'll download and enjoy it all. Definitely a wonderful artist that deserves plenty of attention.

Of the Wand and the Moon - Lucifer

Band: Of the Wand and the Moon
Album: Lucifer
Genre: Neofolk
Country of Origin: Denmark
Year: 2003

Track Listing:
  1. Lucifer
  2. Naer Skóg Naer Fjöllum
  3. Megin Runar
  4. Followe Thy Faire Sunne Unhappy Shaddowe
  5. Time Time Time
  6. Let It Be Ever Thus
  7. Reficul II
  8. Lucifer
OtWatM's third album and maybe my favorite. It also has one of the coolest covers I've seen, and giving it a good look I think enhances the feel of the music. Something about the atmosphere of the cover mixes exceptionally well with the feeling of the music, something Kim did with Nighttime Nightrhymes as well. Has a sequel to the earlier track "Reficul" ('Lucifer' backwards). Enjoy.

Of the Wand and the Moon - I Crave For You 7"

Genre: Neofolk
Country of Origin: Denmark
Year: 2001

Track Listing:
  1. I Crave for You (New version feat. Matt Howden)
  2. In a Robe of Fire (New version)
A very short little EP featuring new versions of songs from Nighttime and Emptiness, before you write it off as a pointless download, listen to the new version of "I Crave For You". Matt Howden (the guy behind Sieben) manages to make a beautiful song even better.

Of the Wand and the Moon - Emptiness:Emptiness:Emptiness

Band: Of the Wand and the Moon

  5. Silver Rain
  6. Gal Anda
  7. Here's to Misery (A Toast)
  8. Can I Erase the Demon?
  9. Reficul
More OtWatM, and no typos. Oh my. Emptiness is my least favorite of Kim's full lengths here, but still good none the less. "Here's to Misery (A Toast)" is a particularly gorgeous composition. Hope you like it.

More OtWatM. Mistake again: "Brace Your Self" is spelled "Barce Your Self". Unusual number of mistakes here. Oh well.

One of my favorite Neofolk acts, a solo project by Kim Larsen. Nighttime is his first album and one of my favorites. Just so you know, "VargQld" is listed as "Vargold" in the upload, so you'll need to edit the tag. Sorry.

Spiritual Front - Armageddon Gigolò

Excellent Neofolk with a very distinct feel. Not sure how to describe it, but I find it to be very emotionally charged, personal and touching music which covers a variety of thoughts and experiences. Listen to it yourself to decide, enjoy.

Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio & Spirirtual Front - Satyriasis

Bands: Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio, Spiritual Front
Album: Satyriasis
Genre: Neofolk, Industrial ("The Pleasure Of Pain")
Country of Origin: Italy (Spiritual Front), Sweden (ORE)
Year: 2005

Track Listing:
  1. Your Sex Is The Scar (Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio feat. Spiritual Front)
  2. Song For The Old Man (Spiritual Front)
  3. Hell Is Where The Heart Is - The Gospel Of Tomas (Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio)
  4. Autopsy of a Love (Spiritual Front)
  5. Three Is An Orgy, Four Is Forever (Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio)
  6. Border (Spiritual Front)
  7. Dreaming Of My Scarlet Woman (Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio)
  8. The Pleasure Of Pain (Spiritual Front feat. Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio)
Split between two of my favorite Neofolk bands, the idea of which formed when the leaders of the two bands met at an orgy in Germany. Satyriasis is the male version of nymphomania, and as is to be expected, many of the songs are very erotically charged, though this is a common aspect of both bands' music. Both the individual songs and the two collaborative efforts are fantastic, and the ORE songs are some of my favorites of theirs. Highly suggested.

Samples

I'll be using shorter descriptions in my posts, replacing the detailed descriptions with links to sample songs in the track listing itself. Hearing the music will give you a better idea of whether you'd enjoy it or not than would reading about it.

Amesoeurs - Amesoeurs

Band: Amesoeurs
Album: Amesoeurs
Genre: Black Metal/Post-Punk
Country of Origin: France
Year: 2009

Track Listing:
  1. Gas in Veins
  2. Les Ruches Malades
  3. Heurt
  4. Recueillement
  5. Faux Semblants
  6. Trouble (Éveils Infâmes)
  7. I XIII V XIX XV V XXI XVIII XIX – IX XIX – IV V I IV
  8. Video Girl
  9. La Reine Trayeuse
  10. Amesoeurs
  11. Au Crépuscule de Nos Rêves
Amesoeurs first and last album and crowning achievement, for the most part is sounds like the songs "Faiblesse Des Sens" and "Les Ruches Malades" from previous releases, the latter of which has been rerecorded and holds the spot of track 2. The album beautifully blends Post-Punk and Black Metal together, with most songs leaning towards the former as mentioned, with Audrey's singing. Neige's shrieks appear on "Recueillement", "I XIII V XIX XV V XXI XVIII XIX – IX XIX – IV V I IV" (Amesoeurs-Is-Dead; the most Black Metal song on the album, which would fit better in a Peste Noire album, really) and "Au Crépuscule de Nos Rêves". Wonderful ending to the band and finality of their sound.

Amesoeurs/Valfunde - Split

Bands: Valfunde and Amesoeurs
Album: Valfunde/Amesoeurs Split
Genre: Black Metal (Valfunde), Black Metal/Post-Punk (Amesoeurs)
Country of Origin: France
Year: 2007

Track Listing:
  1. Hôpital (Valfunde)
  2. "Sérénade" de Verlaine (Valfunde)
  3. Les Ruches Malades (Amesoeurs)
Split between Amesoeurs and Valfunde, the solo-project of Peste Noire's leader. Valfunde is very similar musically to Peste Noire's first album, while the Amesoeurs track leans heavily to the Post-Punk side, and has Audrey's singing on it. The song appears, rerecorded, on Amesoeur's debut album.

Amesoeurs - Ruines Humaines

Band: Amesoeurs
Album: Ruines Humaines
Genre: Black Metal/Post-Punk
Country of Origin: France
Year: 2006

Track Listing:
  1. Bonheur Amputé
  2. Ruines Humaines
  3. Faiblesse Des Sens
French romantic Black Metal/Post-Punk mix, headed by Neige, the man behind Alcest and a guitarist in Peste Noire, for which band he wrote a song on their second album, Folkfuck Folie. Their first release, the first two tracks are more Black Metalish, with Neige's shrieks leading. The third track contains Audrey's beautiful and leans more towards the Post-Punk.

Illicit Dissent - Illicit Dissent

Artist: Illicit Dissent
Album: Illicit Dissent
Genre: Punk
Country: CANADA
Year: 2009

Track Listing:
1. Illicit Dissent
2. Fuck Fukuyama
3. Peace NOT Pacifism
4. Egos and Assholes
5. New Age Cartesian Theory
6. What's Sovereignty?

Illicit Dissent is Tyler Haiste (drums), Neil Pighin (guitar, vocals), Spencer Hammond (bass, vocals), and Magda Partyka (vocals). Hailing from Prince George, BC, these four are Canadian punk rock at its finest. There isn't much more to it than that. You probably won't meet any other guys in a punk band that are more gentlemanly, and I daresay you'll never meet a girl with more piss and vinegar than Magda.

Skillet Lickers - Skillet Lickers

Artist: Skillet Lickers
Genre: Bluegrass/Skit
Album: S/T

Most people on Accelerated Evolution know that I grew up on blugrass and still have a huge soft spot in my heart for the all things bluegrass. Shit, I have a wheatland music festival sticker on the back of my jeep.

When Gid Tanner teamed up with blind guitarist Riley Puckett and signed to Columbia in 1924, they created the label's earliest so-called "hillbilly" recording. Gid Tanner formed The Skillet Lickers in 1926. the first line-up was Gid Tanner, Riley Puckett, Clayton McMichen and Fate Norris. Between 1926 and 1931 they recorded 88 sides for Columbia. Eighty-two of these were commercially issued. Later members were Lowe Stokes, Bert Layne, Hoke Rice, Arthur Tanner and Hoyt "Slim" Bryant. Their best-selling single was "Down Yonder", a hillbilly breakdown, in 1934 on RCA Victor. They disbanded in 1931, but reformed for occasional recordings after a couple of years with a changing line-up. "Back Up and Push" was another well-known recording. The Skillet Lickers, together with fellow North Georgians Fiddlin' John Carson and the Georgia Yellow Hammers, made Atlanta and North Georgia an early center of old-time stringband music, especially the hard-driving fiddle-based style employed by each of these performers.

Country of origin: United Kingdom
Year: 2009
Tracklisting:

1. Mythological
2. Glastonbury
3. Trap-Door feat. Elemental
4. The Divinity of Femininity
5. Another Typical Weekend
6. The Government Always Get In feat. Dizraeli
7. Mental Dungeon of Everything
8. Dead Cops Now

11. Aton
12. She's Mine feat. Elemental & Joncept
13. Mythological (T-Dimentia Remix)
14. Glastonbury (Michael Eavis Remix)

This album is, simply put, one of the best hip-hop albums I've heard in years. Something for everyone who enjoys hip-hop with an eye on the nice sides of life. That said, politics, the dangers behind trap-doors and even zombies are discussed on this album in a brilliant, witty and simply fantastic way. Teej is a different sort of rapper to the grimey or gangsta' rappers (not that I don't enjoy some of those too as I do). His style is very literate with many references to art, ancient gods and all manner of things that you would not expect to hear discussed by someone who is all about the street. Tom Caruana is an absolutely brilliant producer making some of the best hip-hop beats in the UK and armed with an amazing sense of creativity and originality (he also does guest vocals on the song 'Curse of the Corporate Body Rotters'). He has worked with excellent UK hip-hop artists such as Dr. Syntax, Elemental, Skinnyman and others. Together Teej and Tom are Teejuana, an unstoppable force in psychedelic hip-hop. Download now to hear it for yourself.

Voxtrot - Raised By Wolves

artist: Voxtrot
album: Raised By Wolves EP
genre: alt/indie rock
year: 2005
country: usa

you know its not often enough that i go through all the music on my over cluttered hard drive and give what was once forgotten an honest listen. and, after a few spins, i think its time to share. lyrical stylings that are reminiscent of early belle & sebastion and jangly 60's guitar pop, with some modern day "get up and move" beats. this is probably the only way i'm able to describe voxtrot, a band that people first took notice of around '06 when it seemed that every other week another band or song about wolves would be the latest thing to talk about. raised by wolves is a five song ep that gives a pretty good insight of things to come from the band early on. while i can't say that the band has entirly lived up to everything it built up from this ep (i wanted a bit more from their first lp), they will always have a place in my heart and on my hard drive.
this isn't to say that what they have done since is a complete letdown. quite the opposite. i'm just waiting for the full album that really shows off the band's full potential.

here's the link
