The Witchies

Don't have much time to write a full post (not that I ever really do), but I up'd this for a friend and might as well post it here too. Heres a great 5 song EP from (yet another) Canadian band that I expect much from in the future. They kinda sound like if Wolf Parade played dark power-pop in the late 60's.

Warpaint - Exquisite Corpse

Artist: Warpaint
Album: Exquisite Corpse
Genre: dream-pop/shoegaze
Year: 2009 (but most of the songs have been around for longer I believe)
Heres a link to the song Billie Holiday, after listening you'll know if your onboard or not. It feels like the group has been around forever but this album has only (or rather finally) been released this past year. Dreamy, a little fuzzy around the edges, Warpaint has a sound that truly takes you elsewhere. And oh yeah, Shannyn Sossaman was originally the drummer for band.

Murder By Death - Finch

Artist: Murder By Death
Album: Finch
Year: 2009

A book with an official soundtrack? A bit odd. But having it composed and performed entirely by Murder By Death? A bit awesome. Having 7 instrumental tracks inspired by the book 'Finch', "a sci-fi novel along the lines of BladeRunner" (note that Blade Runner is a movie, not the book Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?), Finch is quite the pleasure to listen to. Full of tension and a distinctly cinematic feel I can't help but wish MBD would do a OST for everything I do in life.

I'm also coping out a bit by linking to a blog I've recently run across. Some good stuff there, so dig around a bit.

Nouvelle Vague

Artist: Nouvelle Vague
Album: Nouvelle Vague
Year: 2004
Country: France
Tracks:
1. Love Will Tear Us Apart
2. Just Can't Get Enough
3. In A Manner Of Speaking
4. Guns Of Brixton

6. Too Drunk To Fuck
7. Marian
8. Making Plans For Nigel
9. A Forest
10. I Melt With You
11. Teenage Kicks
12. Psyche
13. Friday Night Saturday Morning

I could have sworn I've uploaded this already, but apparently not. My hard drive filled up last night and in the midst of the chaos I re-found this album. What say you to bossa nova covers of punk rock, post punk, and new wave? Anything with a dedicated whistle solo instantly gets my respect.

Butch Cassidy Sound System

Artist: Butch Cassidy Sound System
Album: Butches Brew

I up'd this album for a friend and figured, hey, might as well post it here. Well, a lazy post at least. Here's the track that introduced me to them (and also on the Late Night Tales: Belle & Sebastion mix). It's got some dub, it's got some funk. What's not to love?

cave in - jupiter

Hey kids! It's been a while since i posted anything for you, so here's an album by the late, great Cave In.

Early in their career, the band played crushing hardcore with crunchy guitars and occasional rocking melodies. Somewhere along the way, they decided to drop the hardcore thing and make spaced out rock with heavy guitars and some metal undercurrents.

Jupiter is probably my favorite of their un-hardcore days, this release containing demo versions of "Stained Silver" and "Rubber and Glue" (titled "Bigger Riff" here) from the follow-up album Antenna. These versions are better than the ones that made it to Antenna, in my opinion.

ANYWAYS, just check it out. It's a solid album from a solid band.

Ajattara - Noitumaa

Everyone who knows Finlands Ajattara knows of hateful metal about whores, hell and sin. well. this album is a bit different. Still the same old hateful Ajattara but.... acoustic. and with a Didgeridoo no less. And the bass parts played on a Nylon String acoustic. I had my doubts and they were squashed. Its nothing less of amazing. This is quite a huge departure from previous albums and it turned out very well. Good on them for taking a chance like this. Ikuisen Aamun Sara has even been described by some as "Tribal Rape Music"

1. keuhkosi
2. massat
3. mitä kuolema parantaa?
4. saatana palvoo meitä
5. saveen saarnattu
6. ikuisen aamun sara
7. kielletyn sanat
8. säkeitä riippuneesta lihasta
9. lammas

This is the second CD packed in with the OST for the anime series Paradise Kiss. It is comprised of singles from the Japanese indie band The Babys over the years, since Paradise Kiss used these as background music during some scenes in the show (and the vocalist is a voice actor for one of the main characters).

If you're into softer J-rock at least give a few tracks a listen like Alien, My Little Girl, RRPP, Kimi no Yoru, and Romantic na Speed de.

Eikichi Yazawa - Loser

Track Listing:
1. Loser

This is Eikichi Yazawa's (矢沢永吉) latest single that was released earlier in the year. It was the theme song used for SEGA's newest installment in their Ryu ga Gotoku series (or Yakuza, as it's renamed in the United States and Europe). It's more upbeat then rock, though. But still a great single from the legendary Yazawa.
